Health Communication Research Centre Summer School
Ethics and Healthcare Communication

02 – 06 July 2007, Cardiff University

This intensive course is specifically targeted at researchers and professionals within the broad healthcare field. The course will explore the focal theme of ethics in a range of healthcare sites from different disciplinary and methodological perspectives. There will also be dedicated sessions on transcripts- and video-based qualitative discourse data analysis. Each day is divided into presentations from the course team followed by smaller group work involving a practical hands-on approach.

The course team will comprise of: Professor Michael Brannigan (Centre for Practical Bioethics, USA), Professor Ruth Chadwick (Cardiff University, UK), Associate Professor Lauris Kaldjian (University of Iowa, USA), Ms Celia Roberts (King’s College London, UK), Prof Barry Saferstein (California State University San Marcos, USA), Professor Srikant Sarangi (Cardiff University, UK), and Professor Paul Wainwright (Kingston University and St George’s University of London, UK).

The Summer School 2007 coincides with The Cardiff Lecture ‘Genetics and Medicine: Successes and Disasters’, to be delivered by Professor Sir Peter Harper at 7pm on 2 July 2007.
